Fear and the First Angel’s Message

Rev 14:7 “And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.””

This passage matters because it is the truth of our present time. Our most important goal as Adventist Christians is first and for-most....

Fear god. and glorify him. Notice it’s not to go and tell the world. notice it’s not feed the hungry, set the captives free, it’s not to cause political or social change, it’s not to worship on the right day or to decry false religion. Your first and most important calling is this. Fear Him, Worship him. Everything else follows this. If you don’t begin here. you don’t begin. period.

Fear? fear how?

Fear is a tricky word. tricky because fear is an emotional response with emotional baggage attached to it. it’s a word that has changed very much over time and it’s obfuscated enough to trick us into believing whatever we want to believe about it. But what does the bible teach?

Today’s message is less a sermon and more an edifying of your understanding of a basic biblical paradigm. The Fear of the Lord

The Plain word of God

12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?

3 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.”

9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

1 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways!

2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.

3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.

4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.

5 The Lord bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!

6 May you see your children’s children! Peace be upon Israel!

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

13 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.

Conclusion

The first and most important message for our end times is to fear God. That means regard god with an attitude of obedience. Be loyal to god, worship him.

Thought for the week, are we characterized by this attitude toward god? what does this attitude look like, and how is it in apposition to the idea of Glorifying? thoughts for our next message.
